When It Rains, He Will Cover You

Last week as I was making my way back from Connecticut to Zion, I was stopped by a woman at the gas station who was urging me to put my top up. Insistently, she approached me and said, "I don't know how far out but I know rain is on the horizon. I'd put the top up if I were you."

At first, I looked at the clouds then back and my convertible tightly packed."When it rains, I will pull over and get everything covered but it seems crazy to waste time in the sun for a storm that isn't even here yet." I smiled, thanked her for her concern, and quickly drove away.

As I drove away, I thought about how many times this same scenario has occurred in my life and I circled around the question, when have I allowed someone else's fear about what is to come dictate the joy that comes from The Son?

Better yet, how many times have we allowed fear of the future to mask the simple truth that we don't know what tomorrow will bring? (James 4:14) For, "farmers who wait for the perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest." (Ecclesiastes 11:4)

Friend, I don't know what fear has stripped away the joy in your life. I don't know if your fear is rooted in failure, comparison, financial need, qualification, or reputation but this is what I do know. You can enjoy The Son as you venture through this life. Rest assured, when it rains, He will cover you. (Psalm 91:4) For, God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
